After our trip to Sofia, we wanted to write you about what amazed us and what are the things that caught our attention!
1. Enormous squares
We weren’t used to huge squares in Greece and that’s why we were amazed by the immense amount and the size of them. It was really lovely to take long walks without being afraid that you will bump someone. The most beautiful pedestrianized street was Vitosha Boulevard, which was the central street of Sofia.
2. Same same but different… food
When we first got the menu and started reading all the different dishes, everything looked strange and new. But when they brought the food we ordered, everything looked familiar to us Greeks.
The tastes were a bit stranger than what we were used to but it looked the same from the outside. So, remember that if you visit Sofia, you will find food similar to its neighboring countries like Greece or Turkey.
3. Kiosks
You are probably wondering how on earth could a kiosk be different. In Greece we have small kiosks by the road, but on the contrary in Sofia kiosks are actually basements turned into mini markets and you have to lean or to kneel in order to buy anything. Also, you can only view the products through the window and you have to order the product you want to buy.
4. Parks-go-round
We were amazed by how many parks are all around Sofia. We are not used to that many parks in the center of the city and when we visited Sofia, there was a park wherever we walked. It was not just the quantity of parks but also how big the parks were. The biggest one is Borisova garden which also has two soccer fields and you will feel like you are in the middle of a forest or something.
5. People everywhere
Even though Bulgaria isn't a popular or well-known travel destination, people are everywhere. And when we say "people everywhere" we actually mean it, since wherever we were we felt like walking towards Fontana di Trevi, especially in Vitosha Boulevard, that we mentioned before.
6. Countless churches
Walking in Sofia, we were amazed by the amount of churches. There was one church in every street. We also liked the fact that most of them were really different from what we are used to, since they had ornated domes and unusual colorations.
If you do a google search of "churches in Sofia", you will be shocked by how many churches will show up!
7. A dirt cheap trip
Believe it or not the cost to go there, to stay and to return was under 100€! And our appartment was exactly at the city center. Also, the food and the drinks in general were really cheap, so we didn't spend a small fortune for just a trip as we usually do.
That's all from us!
