Parga is one of the most beloved tourist destinations in Greece. And for good reason, since its paved alleys, crystal clear beaches and colorful graphic houses will make you feel like you're on an greek island!
But, it's even better to visit Parga, because you won't have to be stranded inside a ferry endlessly or spend a fortune for airplane tickets (of course without luggage), since Parga is easily reachable from every city of the mainland!
What to do in Parga
Beaches
Parga is the ideal place for eveyrone who wants a quick excursion and to enjoy a wonderful swim in turquoise waters. The most famous beach is Valtos, with crystal clear waters. It's important to mention that some umbrellas and beach chairs are free and you only have to pay for your coffee and food!
Other notable beaches are: Lychnos, Alonaki, Ai Giannakis and Piso Krioneri. Let's write a few words for each one for you to be well prepared.
Lychnos beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, since the natural scenery is truly magical. It is an organized beach, full of beach bars and taverns. The only drawback is that it's not easily reachable, but the sight of the beach will make you forget the hardship you went through! Don't forget that you can rent a sea bike and visit the Cave of Aphrodite, which we will mention later on.
Alonaki is famous not only for its unimaginable waters, but also for its untamed beauty, since the rocky formations and the green forest right next to the sea is a sight you will never forget!
Ai Giannakis beach is a beautiful and clean beach with pembles and turquoise waters. It's not an organized one, but you can find a small cantine with all the essentials.
Piso Krioneri is a graphic small beach with beautiful waters and marvelous view! The reason it's so popular is because it's literally right next to Parga.

Aphrodite's Cave
As we mentioned above, near Lychnos beach you can find the famous Cave of Aphrodite, which is the cave where Aphrodite used to swim. Nearby, you can also find other caves. The legend says that anyone who swims inside one of these caves will become younger!
Acheron
It's the river which, Ancient Greeks believed, was used by the dead to cross to the Underworld. It's a bit far from the center of the town (37 km.), but it's a significant historical site. There, you will find ruins of the famous oracle, but unfortunately you won't find a guided tour.
We recommend you to visit Acheron's Springs. Unfortunately it's a bit far but it's truly a marvelous experience! The scenery is magical, waters are crystal clear and you can also do extreme sports (canoe kayak, zip line, etc.).
Venetian Castle
Since it's located on top of a hill, which you will have to climb to reach it, the view is one of a kind! There is also a cafe, in which you can have a coffee or food, accompanied with the stunning view of the town. We suggest you to visit it early in the morning or late in the afternoon, for an easier climb.
As for the castle, it's important to mention that events and plays are regularly organized there, but other than that, it's not worth visiting since it looks abandoned.
Island of Panagia
The island of Panagia is an emerald green island located across the sea of Parga. It's located so close to the town, that you can visit it via a boat or even swim the distance!
It's worth visiting, since the view you will see is splendid and indeed it's a tiny green island. There you will find the chapel of Panagia (the island is named after it) as well as an astonishing small sandy beach.
Food
Parga, being a town of Epirus, is well-known for its delicious epirutian dishes, such as pies, sweet and savory (try minced meat pie, leek pie or pasta pie), mouth-watering sweets (almond pie, walnut pie and the famous "klostati", which is the traditional baklava with walnut) and of course milk products, such as the epirian feta cheese!
Moreover, if you visit Parga, it's worth trying seafood! Since Parga is a costal area, it is famous for its delicious seafood. Try fish-balls and pies with seafood! You won't have enough of it!
